Nicaragua 2007
Hi all,
Me and one of my best mates, Simon (and a few other guys) headed down to Nicaragua August 24th - September 2nd. It reminded me a lot of Costa Rica but it was definitely different. Inside the Popoyo Surf Lodge, the Nicaraguans were friendly-- however in Managua (near the airport) and in the surrounding areas around the lodge it seemed as if the people were not as friendly as their Tico neighbors to the south. With all that said, we surfed Playgrounds (PGs), "The Beachbreak", Popoyo (Inside), and Lance's Left. When it rained (which was about 30% of the time) it REALLY RAINED! No little rain drops there that's for sure.
The offshore winds for the most part were hard to catch and even our boatman said it was an odd season for the winds and weather. It's not to take away that we still had some fun waves-- the best day being the last day of our trip when we caught the legendary offshore winds at "The Beachbreak" with 5-8 foot swell. Everyone else had quit surfing out of frustration but Simon and I stuck it out and scored. Of course our photographer wanted to surf instead of taking shots of us. I couldn't blame him because it was GOOD that last day! I'm sure I have more to say but I'd rather just post my pix!
